Operation of using shackles

0 评论

Operating practices and guidelines for the use of shackles are as follows:

  • The shackle pin shall never be replaced with a bolt; only a properly fitted pin shall be used. Bolts are not intended to take the load that is normally applied to the pin.

  • Shackles shall not be used if the pin cannot be completely seated.

  • Shackles shall never be pulled at an angle because the capacity will be tremendously reduced. Centralize whatever is being hoisted on the pin by suitable washers or spacers .

  • Screw pin shackles shall not be used if the pin can roll under load and unscrew.

Closed Body Turnbuckle

0 评论

Turnbuckle can be divided into open body turnbuckle and closed body turnbuckle. This time, let’s talk about closed body turnbuckle.

Rigging screw turnbuckles , DIN1478 pipe body turnbuckle and DIN1478 turnbuckle frames are closed body turnbuckle.Rigging screw turnbuckle offered by Toolee is made by high carton steel with forged and then hot dip galv. It’s surface is self-color or e-galv. The DIN1478 pipe body turnbuckles and DIN1478 turnbuckle frames are also forged and then hot dip galv., but it’s material is different from Rigging screw turnbuckl, it is made by forged steel .

Closed turnbuckles’ bodies are made of tubing, end fittings are quenched and tempered, bodies heat treated by normalizing. It is usde for when the load is in-line.This kind of turnbuckle is ideal for marine applications and architectural applications.

About Shackles

0 评论

Shackles are U-shaped pieces of metal secured with a pin or bolt across the opening, or hinged metal loops that are secured with a quick-release locking mechanism. There are three basic types of shackles. All meet or exceed U.S. Federal Specification RRC-271D, "Chains and Attachments: Welded and Weldless", and are made of alloy steel or carbon steel. They are available in painted, galvanized or self-colored finishes and use quenched or tempered pins. Class 1 shackles pass a rounded pin through holes at the base of the shackle. A spring-actuated cotter pin or hair pin holds the butt end of the shackle in place. Class 2 shackles use screw-pins that pass through an opening on one only side of the shackle. The pins use a key-like design and exhibit extreme deformation before failure. Class 3 shackles have safety anchors or chains that are held in place with a nut and bolt on opposite ends of the pin. Shackles that meet Amendment 1 to Federal Specification RRC-271D are also available.

Selecting shackles requires an analysis of specifications and features. Dimensional specifications include: pin or bolt diameter, hole diameter, width at eyes, width at bow, width between eyes, inside length, inside width at bow, outside diameter (OD) of eye, approximate weight, and estimated weight per hundred. Some shackles use English measurements such as inches (in) or fraction of inches. Others are measured in metric units such as centimeters (cm) or millimeters (mm). Performance specifications for shackles include working load limit (WLL), an amount that is usually measured in tons. Specialized shackles may carry additional specifications or provide optional features. For example, stainless steel screw-pin anchor shackles provide improved corrosion and chemical resistance. Trawling shackles have heat-treated bodies and square headed pins that facilitate tightening and loosening. Web sling shackles may be hot-dip galvanized or zinc-plated, and provide an ultimate strength equal to four times the working load limit.

Using Shackles Safely

0 评论

If you want to use the shackles safely ,you should know the safety knowledge:

Do not attempt lifting operations unless you understand the use of the equipment, the slinging procedures and the mode factors to be applied.

Do not use defective shackles or unidentified pins.

Shackles should be fitted so that the body takes the load along its centre line and is not subjected to side bending loads. When connecting a number of sling legs, and similar applications, position them so that they do not impose a side load on the shackle jaws. Use spacers to position them if necessary.

Ensure the pin is correctly screwed into the shackle eye.

Tighten by hand, use a small bar to lock the collar to the

shackle eye. Check that the thread is fully engaged with the body but is not too long so that tightening causes the body to deform.

With bolt and nut pins ensure the nut jams on the inner end of the thread and not on the eye of the shackle. The bolt should be free to rotate with minimal side float. The split cotter pin must be fitted before making a lift.

When using shackles with slings in choke hitch, or in other applications where there may be movement, place the pin through the eye or link of the sling and never in contact with the bight of the choke or moving parts which may cause the pin to unscrew.

You know how to use a shackle ,also you should know the storing and handling of shackles :

  • Never return damaged shackles to storage. They should be dry, clean and protected from corrosion.

  • Do not alter, modify or repair shackles and never replace missing pins with unidentified pins, bolts etc, but refer such matters to a Competent Person.

  • Never galvanise or subject a shackle to other plating processes without the approval of the supplier.

TOOLEE specialize in all kinds of turnbuckles in high quality, which including US type turnbuckles and EURO type turnbuckles, also have Hamburg DD turnbuckle,DIN1478 pipe body type turnbuckle,Frames turnbuckle.Toolee can help you how choose a good turnbuckle.

Selecting turnbuckles requires an analysis of product and performance specifications. In order to check the quality is good or not, Firstly you should pay attention to the surface, it should be smooth and sleek. Secondly, check the size of turnbuckles. Basic measurements include diameter, take up, length, and estimated weight. The last but not the least , you must accord the application decide which type turnbuckle you should choose. If only these there points are up to standard, we can asure the turnbuckle is good and use it assured.

What should you avoid when using shackles?

0 评论

When you use the shackles ,you should notice the situation  as below :

  • Do not replace the shackle pin with a bolt . A load will bend the bolt.

b17-2

  •  Do not allow a shackle to be pulled at an angle. The legs will open. Pack the pin with washers to center the shackle.

b17-3

  •  Do not use screw pin shackles if the pin can roll and unscrew. If the load shifts, the sling will unscrew the shackle pin.

b17-5

This is the basic situation which you should avoid , understand it ,you can use it better.
